Terms of Service
Effective 20 September 2026
1. Who operates this service
Better Plate Recipes is operated by Aaron Bennett, an individual sole proprietor. In these Terms, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Aaron Bennett. “You” means the person using the service.
You can reach us at contact@betterplaterecipes.com.
2. What Better Plate Recipes is
Better Plate Recipes is a website offering recipes, cooking guides, and a meal planning tool called My Better Plate. My Better Plate lets you save recipes, plan meals across a week, build a grocery list, import recipes from other websites, and have recipe steps read aloud while you cook.
Some features require an account. Some require a paid subscription. We describe both below.
3. Your account
You need an account to use My Better Plate. When you create one you agree to:
- give an email address you control;
- keep your password confidential;
- be responsible for activity that happens under your account.
Tell us at contact@betterplaterecipes.com if you believe someone else has access to your account.
You must be old enough to enter a binding contract where you live. This service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. If you are a minor under the law where you live, you may use the service only with the permission of a parent or guardian.
4. Free plan and Better Plate Plus
Free. A free account includes the meal planner, grocery list, saved recipes, and read-aloud for up to 30 steps in any 24-hour period. It includes 5 website recipe imports for the life of the account, counted only when you save an imported recipe.
Better Plate Plus. Plus costs $4.99 per month, removes the 5-import lifetime limit, and removes the daily read-aloud limit. To protect the service, read-aloud on any plan may pause briefly during unusually heavy use. Read-aloud uses an AI-generated voice, not a human recording.
A limit that applies to both plans. Whether you are on Free or Plus, you can start up to 30 imports in any 24-hour period, and a smaller number in any short burst. This protects the service from overload. It counts attempts, including ones that fail. Plus does not raise this limit; it only removes the lifetime cap of 5 saved imports.
We may change what each plan includes. If a change materially reduces what you are paying for, we will tell you before it takes effect.
5. Payment, renewal, and cancellation
Payments are handled by Stripe. Checkout and billing management happen on pages hosted by Stripe. No card number, security code, or other payment instrument is entered into or stored by Better Plate. Stripe’s terms and privacy policy apply to your payment.
A Plus subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel. By subscribing you authorise us, through Stripe, to charge your payment method on each renewal date.
You can cancel at any time from the billing portal inside your account. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for. You keep Plus features until then, and you are not charged again.
If a payment fails, we may retry it and may suspend Plus features until payment succeeds.
6. Refunds
Payments are generally non-refundable, including partial months after you cancel.
This does not limit any refund right you have under the law that applies to you. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, write to contact@betterplaterecipes.com and we will look at it.
7. Price changes
We may change the price of Plus. If we do, we will tell you before the change applies to your subscription, and the new price will take effect on a renewal after that notice. If you do not want to pay the new price, cancel before that renewal.
Taxes may be added where we are required to collect them.
8. Your content
Content you add to the service — recipes you import, meals you plan, grocery items you write, photos stored with your own recipes — stays yours. We do not claim ownership of it.
To run the service, we need permission to store it, process it, and show it back to you. By adding content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, store, copy, and display that content for the purpose of providing the service to you. That licence ends when the content is deleted, except for copies that may persist temporarily in routine system backups.
You are responsible for the content you add. You confirm that you have the right to add it and that it does not break the law or anyone else’s rights.
9. Imported recipes
The import feature reads a recipe page you point it to and extracts the recipe into your account. It is for your own personal use.
Recipes on other websites are often protected by copyright, and the page you import from may have its own terms. Importing a recipe does not give you rights to republish it. Do not use the import feature to build a copy of someone else’s recipe collection, to redistribute their content, or to scrape a site at volume.
Imported content is read by an automated service and may be wrong or incomplete. We show you what was extracted so you can correct it before saving. Check it.
10. Acceptable use
Do not:
- use the service for anything unlawful;
- try to break, overload, or get around limits, rate limits, or access controls;
- use another person’s account, or share yours;
- copy, scrape, or redistribute the recipe content on this site at scale;
- upload content that infringes someone’s rights, or that is abusive, hateful, or obscene;
- attempt to access parts of the service, or other users’ data, that you are not entitled to.
11. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or close your account if we reasonably believe you have broken these Terms, used the service fraudulently or abusively, or used it unlawfully.
Where it is practical and appropriate to do so, we will tell you why.
If we close your account for one of those reasons, you are not entitled to a refund of amounts already paid, except where the law requires one.
You can close your account at any time — see the next section.
12. Deleting your account
You can ask us to delete your account by writing to contact@betterplaterecipes.com from the email address on the account. There is currently no self-service delete button; deletion is carried out by us after we verify the request came from you.
When we delete an account we remove your profile, your saved and imported recipes and the images stored with them, your meal plan, your grocery data, your usage counters, and your account-linked billing customer, subscription, and checkout records. We also remove your sign-in identity and cancel any active subscription with our payment provider.
We aim to complete deletion requests well inside 30 days, and we commit to completing them within 30 days of a verified request.
Limited operational records may remain where they no longer identify you. These include a record that a deletion took place, and payment-system event records that carry no user identifier. Copies of data may also persist temporarily in routine system backups. Our payment provider retains its own records of payments under its policies, and we may be required to keep payment and tax records.
Deletion is permanent. We cannot restore a deleted account.
13. Nutrition and health information
Nutrition figures on this site are estimates, and for many recipes they are calculated automatically from the ingredient list rather than measured. They are approximations for general information only.
Nothing on this site is medical or dietary advice. It is not a substitute for advice from a doctor, registered dietitian, or other qualified professional. If you have a health condition, a food allergy, or specific dietary requirements, talk to a professional before relying on anything here.
See our Nutrition Disclaimer for more.
14. Availability and changes to the service
We try to keep the service running, but we do not promise it will be available without interruption or free of errors. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features.
If we discontinue Plus, or discontinue a feature that Plus paid for, we will tell you and stop charging you.
15. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that recipes, nutrition estimates, imported content, or any other information on the site is accurate, complete, or suitable for you.
16. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill;
- our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) $50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits. Where that is the case, they apply to you only to the extent permitted.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
17. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to its conflict of laws rules.
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey, and you and we each consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
This does not prevent either of us from bringing a claim in small claims court where that court has jurisdiction.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If we make a material change, we will update the effective date at the top and, where the change affects a paid subscription, tell you before it applies to you.
Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
